Cansei De Ser Sexy

If you’ve been watching any TV the last month or two, you’ve probably seen the commercial for the new iPod Touch. Here’s a neat little fact about that commercial. The concept was originally made up by 18-year old UK first year political science student Nick Haley who created the commercial using clips from the apple website and Final Cut Pro on his MacBook.

He made the commercial in September of this year and uploaded it to YouTube. It received a lot of hits, but most importantly, it caught the eye of some execs at Apple. They contacted Nick and flew him out to California to oversee and be involved in making his amateur commercial ready for national airplay. What a great way to build a relationship with your customers, eh?

The New York Times did an excellent article that you can read here. See if you can spot the differences between Nick’s commercial and Apple’s.

What’s most interesting, in my opinion, is the song used for the ad. Haley said that he was inspired to create the commercial after hearing the lyric, My music is where I’d like you touch, from the song “Music is My Hot Hot Sex” by the Brazilian band CSS. If you check out the comments on YouTube for the commercial, they’re not about how cool the iPod touch is or how everyone wants one, rather the comments are about the song, who sings it, how much they love it, etc.

CSS stands for Cansei de Ser Sexy which means “Tired of Being Sexy.” I’ve listened to the band’s debut self-titled album and it is hot. CSS excels at a sound that most aren’t familiar with: Electropop. Other Electropop bands you may have heard of include LCD Soundsystem, Le Tigre, and The Postal Service.

Check ’em out. They’re pretty sick. Plus, the lead singer Lovefoxxx is quite pretty. 🙂

It’s a yearly tradition to go camp out at Best Buy at midnight and wait for Black Friday. This year however, I decided to avoid going near the place. I couldn’t stay away for too long and ended up checking the place out around noon. I probably shouldn’t have as I ended up spending basically $100 there.

Oh well. What’s done is done. What is exciting, though, is that I purchased The Orange Box for 24.99… HALF OFF! How awesome is that?

For those of you who don’t know, you probably won’t be interested in any of this, but for those of you who are somewhat familiar with Half-Life, Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, etc… The Orange Box contains Half-Life 2, Team Fortress II, and Portal. I am so psyched. This will probably take up some of my free time. Yay.

Here’s a quick YouTube Video of Portal.

The installation just finished… so here I go!

Thanksgiving weekend was great. I was so happy to get out of the city and spend time in the good ol’ Antelope Valley. I didn’t do a whole lot over the weekend, except see some old friends and sleep in a lot.

One thing that I did that I had a blast doing was setting up a little mini photo shoot with my sister Amber on Saturday. We spent an hour shopping at a thrift store for some interesting clothing and then made our way out to the desert behind my neighborhood for a little photo fun. Here are some of the shots from that. Granted, I did a lot of post-editing, because it suits my sister’s style. Check it.

You can see more on my Flickr.

Tonight, I helped decorate the front of the house for Christmas. It took a while, but it looks good. I think so, anyway. Here’s a picture.

Well that’s all I have time for now. Time to decorate my stocking… then a quick bite to eat… then back to Los Angeles… *sigh* Christmas Break can’t come soon enough.

Okay… sweet.

I’m getting a feel for my new home here at WordPress. It’s a lot different from Blogger, but I think I’m liking it.

In other news:

UCLA beat Oregon. Which means that USC has a shot at and most likely will be in the Rose Bowl, taking the Pac-10 title. It’s been a great weekend.
